Keep 'em peeled!

As promised I'm doing a running-Fairey-blog! There's a palpaple sense of anticipation about the upcoming Shepard Fairey exhibition at the Truman Brewery which opens next Friday! My Obey-fan ladies have been coming out of the woodwork to get themselves kitted out for the opening night!

Here's some work-in-progress pics.....keep your eyes open around town, there may be some street art appearing....and the one-off pieces Fairey is working on for the show are looking amazing.

So get some art on your t-shirt! Haven't had time to do a proper movie but here's me, Lisa and Ima Doll slipping into a few hoodies on Saturday...

Icelandic schoolgirls anyone?

I'm rather proud of the fact that I styled these lovely Icelandic ladies for Nicholas Abraham's new Lee Hazlewood video!

Don't they look great? Their names are Inga and Birna and Abrahams followed them over the rain-soaked hills (with his camera of course) as their gymslips got more and more soaked.....they'd better not've stretched my berets out of shape!....

Countdown.....

Can't believe it's almost November already!!! And yes, Guy Fawkes night is exciting - especially since I plan to go to Lewes near Brighton with my sister because they know how to burn an effigy there!! In fact, as you can see from these pictures, in my family we've already started the Halloween celebrations, my friend Laurence threw a voodoo Halloween party on Sunday which was fantastic!!

But I digress....the OTHER reason to get excited is Shepard Fairey's exhibition at the Truman Brewery starting 2nd November which you have GOT to go to!!!

I've been banging on about Fairey and Obey on this blog for quite some time now. You probably know his work but didn't realise who was behind it. You've probably seen Andre the Giant all over the world in sticker form or on billboards or on t shirts and wondered who made them or what they meant....or some of the more thought provoking layered pieces that look like peeling Soviet revolutionary posters. You may have even bought a "Make Art Not War" t shirt from this very shop just because you liked the sentiment and thought nothing more of it.....now is the time to brush up on your Fairey! Here's a little clip of the artist talking about his work:

Anyway, his first solo show in London is a date for the diary...there's so much more to tell so check the blog for regular updates on the Obey phenomenan!

While I'm at it....

Now I'm in blogging mood, I also wanted to tell you about the last Look party last week. It was the last one in Clapham which is a shame because the venue is DIVINE - the chandelier alone I will miss! But anyway, The Look is moving east, to Clerkenwell so hopefully see you at the Christmas bash which boasts Kevin Rowlands and the Priscillas on the bill and if that weren't enough, yours truly will be spinning some tubes (private joke!)...

But last week All About Eve Babitz played and the video is almost complete, actually I might try to bung it up before the end of today, I might as well make the most of my blogging fervour.....
Lovely friends, family, champagne, music from the Broken Hearts... the next day by mid afternoon I was feeling it you could say, but here's a few smiley snaps...

Caz was literally electric after protesting that she would only have one gentle glass and off for an early nite...

Paul scrubbed up rather well and took to the floor...

Jaz was visited by a spirit...

Abrahams shocked Suzanne to the core with his choice of t shirt...

Sally's glass was always half-full....

Ray had a lot to say to Alex and Tracey....

And Lektrogirl was in the house as both friend and camera-crew!

The Broken Hearts played a genius set...

...and even had going away outfits!

So it's goodbye from Clapham....

Blog withdrawal....

I can't believe I haven't blogged since Holly Woodlawn hit the town!!! Still can't get over my luck at meeting her, and today I learned from a link Superduck sent that they'll be laying Candy Darling's ashes to rest this weekend in a special ceremony in america....aaah, love those superstars! Sold my Viva book at Frieze today ('cos I've got 2), or rather Nathaniel did....what's going on in my life? It's like Warhol's doing a tapdance on my grave or something!!

If you're wondering what I've been up to, well...the following video which I've JUST finished, documents Max and my last trip to Paris at the weekend. We went to look at Summer 08 APC which was of course awesome, not least the silver and gold dresses, which have that nautical take that APC have got so down...how do they do that? Anyway, almost as exciting was the new bicycle borrowing system they have installed on the streets of Paris. F.A.N.T.A.S.T.I.C.!!!!! OMG, we spent the whole day riding around and took in EVERYTHING! I see Boris tootling by Maison Bertaux on his bike quite often and next time I'm going to collar him and tell him he'd be well on his way to making me a happy citizen if he would champion the same thing in London! It's perfect for people with no space to keep a bike, it's CHEAP, it's FUN and it's HEALTHY!!!! I'll stop before I start sounding like a commercia!

On to my movie then,.......

I was thrilled to find that we were doing our appointment with Hughes who I LOVE! He usually manages the shop but came in specially for us, so merci beaucoup Hughes! The summer stuff is so great, you can see that I favoured the metallic theme, but also there's some incredible colours which are surprising from APC, simple shirts in schiaperelli pink, yellow cheesecloth, knitted dresses in bright blue edged with red....you're gonna love love love!!!

MILANO

Hey Folks

I am like TOTALLY TOTALLY JEALOUS about what Pippa has been up to while I was at a trade show in Milan! OMG - can you imagine who she met?! [see below!] I know that she will be a little interested to know that I met Emilio Fiorucci in Italy and his lady trundling around the show in a navy blue sweater and jeans, and his wife was in a navy blue mac and a Marimekko print cotton bag over her shoulder.

I have to say I'm not as enthralled with Milan as I am with Paris, Hamburg or Hobart and I was so relieved to be home again but there were some cool parts:

Two nights we went to a restaurant called Bagutta for dinner. Here is what an Italian calls scampi! Bagutta is a restaurant with an amazing history and is worth a visit mostly for the amazing art work all over the walls in frames and the literary awarded books in shelves in the hallway. The restuarant opened in 1924 and attracted a lot of artists, journalists, writers, actors etc etc. A group of them met their regularly, so regularly in fact that they decided to start a system of fines if someone didn't make it. The money was used to start a literary award - "BAGUTTA" for their favourite book of each year. The Bagutta is the oldest literary award in Italy. On the walls the paintings are from the nights awards were presented or the group met to honour someone prestigious. One of the waiters also told me that sometimes the owner of the restaurant would swap artwork for a meal from one of the diners instead of payment. They styles of this artwork as it changes through the decades is fabulous.

Some examples of the artwork.

Bagutta wasn't my favourite food place though - I prefered this other fish restaurant we went to and I can't remember the name. Check out how cute my dessert was though!

I did get some time to party on one night - and it seems that in Italy, Italo will never die. I so wanted Max to see these two party people.

And here is my new best friend I met at the club, Chiara, throwing the new sign I showed her. She has an amazing collection of glasses frames - she doesn't even need to wear glasses...

So that is enough from me.

xx Emma
