And indeed there were many witches out on Sunday night at Ponystep! Who cares if we were a week early? I was going for a Bonnie Parker-meets-goth look.....gave one of my old wigs a shake out (the boys have been playing with my collection of wigs a little too enthusiastically, I could hardly get a brush through it!), and stepped out gingerly in a beautiful old 20's dress Nanny Van gave me a few years ago but manages to shed sequins with every step....

Rudy and Nahid had surpassed themselves with Burton-esque half-face skeleton make-up - I was so impressed!

Richard chose to accessorize with a pumpkin-coloured Giles scarf.....has to be said he didn't last long, as his head got hotter and his neck itchier he decided to retire it early....

Jonjo gave it subtle-yet-effective-fatal-wound.....

And some (i.e.Jack and Troyboy) gave a nod to the proceedings with a slutty smokey eye...

Gwen's concession to Halloween came by way of Lene Lovich-style screams while gyrating in a black leotard - utterly AMAZING! Here she is hitching a lift to the bar....

This isn't the last you'll hear about Halloween on this blog I'm guessing....I'm off to Kent for some more childish shenanigans at the weekend. Kids are a great excuse to give it a bit of American overboard! But then you don't need an excuse to wig-up and don a bit of black....ask Stella....

Great stuff at Nelly Duff

I was playing at the George and Dragon the other night, and as luck would have it, Nahid and Rudy were headed that way to the Nelly Duff on Columbia Road to see the Angelique Houtkamp show "Folies les Femmes". So not only did I get driven to work in style, I had a spare half hour to take in the wonderful show and even meet the artist! Reeeesult!

Angelique was showing some exquisite watercolours of lady pirates, carnival queens and freaks. She is a tattoo artist by trade and all the images have that aesthetic, not quite Sailor Jerry, much more refined, like smokey-eyed 1920's vamps with finger-waved hair and pnned eyes....there's voodoo skulls super-imposed on some of the images and they are drawn on what looks like tea-stained watercolour paper - they are sooooo amazing! This is my favourite.....

But I pretty much loved them all....how wonderful it would be to get an Angelique tattoo! I'm a sucker for a woman making it in a man's world and she has really carved herself a distinctive niche. Nahid and I fluttered around her like proper fans and got books signed....

And although the exhibition was a two day quickie, they're holding some of the prints in stock - I'm really tempted to get the pirate-girls set - so if you like the look of anythiing on the website here, you should get in touch or go along for a butchers....

I definately saw a print of this one in the drawer.....

Mates on Plates

I keep mentioning my and some of the Maison B ladies' trips to Good Vibes, which is Nahid's power plates studio, but if anyone wasn't sure what we do there take a look at this!

I did a film of Nahid for YouTube - this is the first of many, and I bet you'll be inspired to give it a go! When I tell people I go to power plates they imagine being wobbled around with a rubber band round your middle like something out of a cartoon, but you can see it's much more subtle than that. PLUS you can do it in full make-up, PLUS you don't need trainers, PLUS you can pretty much whip of your skirt and get on! And it "takes care of business" as Nahid says, kind of firms you up in all the key places - especially bum!
